For this interview, I interviewed a fellow High Schooler. He is a high honors student that takes part in various AP courses. As I created the questions, I knew I wanted to form a better foundation for my argument. As a result, I asked questions that would get a different perspective on the topic as well as probe for vital information supporting that the current education system is not the way it should be to feed the minds of “the next generation”.
-What do you think about the American Education system?
I think that the American Education system is lacking the ability to captivate the minds of kids. This is because students are taught subjects, and in 1 year it goes out the other ear.
-Are you familiar with any other education system?
I am familiar with the Chinese education system. In China, students have 16 hour classes where they are mostly taught math and science. However, other subjects are given once they mastered the math and science course.
-How was the concept of education instilled into you?
I'm not sure what you mean but I think that the education system was brought into me when I was in 1st grade. That's when we had math, reading, english, social studies, and Spanish classes.
-What are your beliefs in education?
I think that education should be taught about how to survive life not on things people would not need to learn. We need to learn how to do taxes, pay bills, establish credit etc.
-Do you think it is better for people to be educated or for them to educate themselves?
I think that we could use both because not everyone can learn by thwmselves.
-Is it better to blindly accept something for what someone or a book tells you what it is? Or is it better for you to learn about it on your own?
I think it is up to the person. The book is just there as a fact. If a person. Wants to learn more, they can go on ahead and research.
-What are some major authority figures you submit to on a daily basis?
Teachers. Police. Parents. Some family members. Some friends.
-Is it better to go with the flow of things or to carve your own path?
I sometimes make my own path but I follow the flow. I think people should carve their own path and experience something new.
